Reviewing the Glossybox UK Beauty Subscription Box

I love getting things in the mail- especially when it’s makeup! I thought I’d subscribe to Glossybox, one of the UK’s more well-known beauty subscription boxes to surprise myself each month with some new products to try and keep up my makeup-hoarding ways. In the past I have tried Birchbox (another well-known beauty subscription) but I was disappointed with the range and sizes of the products I received.

Glossybox lets you choose either a one, 3, 6 or 12-monthly plan of varying prices (the longer the plan, the better the value). I thought I’d try out the 3-month plan costing £28.50 (excluding the £3.25 shipping fee for each box). Unlike birchbox, you do not have the option to key in details about yourself or your preferences, so boxes shouldn’t vary too much between subscribers.

October 2017

October’s box was ‘Mermaid Vs Unicorn’ themed.

The box itself was really cute! Almost all the items were full sized, and it was nice getting a huge Revolution palette in my first box. I was at first skeptical about the Sleek creme to powder blush because it was such a red shade, but it actually blended out really nicely. I also like the bang beauty cream colour, and it made a really nice cream eyeshadow base. The Revolution palette was definitely my favourite item as it had fun colours that I don’t have, and fit with the whole ‘Unicorn’ theme well. I already have a brush cleaner so I gave the one I received away, but I think it is a nice beauty essential that everyone should have. I did not like the Lord and Berry eyebrow pencil as it was a really unflattering warm brown shade that didn’t suit my eyebrows. However, I thought this was a really nice intro to Glossybox and what it had to offer.

November 2017

November’s box revolved around the cosy concept of ‘Hygge’.

Although it was hard to beat the previous box, this box still had some items I really liked. My favourite products were the Boots Charcoal and Willow Bark Face Mask and the Beauty UK Contour brush. The boots charcoal mask actually took me by surprise as I underestimated it to be just a cheap drugstore mask. Despite the very tingly feeling when you first put it on, I actually felt my skin looked brighter and cleaner the next morning, and has now become a staple mask that I regularly buy! The contour brush is full size and is dense enough and well-shaped for it’s purpose. I haven’t tried the body wash yet but it’s nice that it’s travel size, and lip balms are always useful in my opinion. The only product I really didn’t like was the eyebrow powder. It could be because I just generally don’t use eyebrow powders, and prefer pencils and pomades, but I didn’t like the blocked-out appearance it gave my brows.

December 2017

December’s box was all about being festive. The box itself featured a beautiful design by Dustyboy Designs- an Irish artist. Besides the usual 5 items I received, a slip with a discount code for Dustyboy was enclosed, which I actually used to get discount off a few Christmas presents for my family. I also used a code at the checkout to receive an extra ‘secret santa box’ which had some nice items in it.

I actually really enjoy everything in this box. I like that the eyeliner, eyeshadow palette and lipstick can all be used to create a complete look if you wanted to. I received the palette with 6 berry and champagne shimmer shades which are of a decent quality. The eyeliner is actually one that I now used everyday, and actually might repurchase once I use it up! It has a really nice precise tip that can be used to create the perfect cat eye. The lipstick is multi-purpose and can be used as a blush and eye base as well, and is very moisturising. The Naobay face wash is 100ml so I used it on my long-haul flight, and have actually continued to use it this holiday. I find it’s a very gentle but effective cleanser. I have not used the charcoal toothpaste yet, but it’s an item I’ve always wanted to try and now have the chance to!

My Overall Thoughts…

Overall, I have really enjoyed the past three boxes from Glossybox. I like that they give you a nice variety of products that are useful, and are from brands that I haven’t heard of or wouldn’t have tried before. A few items given to me such as the Steve Laurant eyeliner, the Boots Mask and the Naobay cleanser are all products I’d definitely be buying again thanks to Glossybox!
